Bricks are REALLY Bricks

If you've ever done a duathlon or triathlon you KNOW what a brick is. A brick is what they label the transition from cycling to running. I experienced my first brick yesterday. WOW! It is the weirdest feeling. You know you are moving forward when you start to run, but it doesn't take too long before you wonder how because you can't feel the muscles that are working! For some (that would be me) it takes almost a mile before you feel the right muscles working and get a good running rhythm. Yesterday was a 9 mile bike and 3 mile run and thus the reason it took me a day to update the website. I was WIPED OUT!

Good News! The cotton feeling is leaving my throat and I'm starting to hear again! In-other-words, the cold is almost gone! Keep praying for its disappearance.

GREAT NEWS! Have you seen the goal bar???? We're over 50%! Wahoo!!!! I wonder if we can blow my goal of $5000 out of the water?!?! Thanks to all who have donated! Thanks for sponsoring me and thanks for helping race to find a cure against Luekemia & Lymphoma! --As one of my story tellers told the kids this morning...Have a wicked cool week! j:)

Just a Spoonful of Sugar Helps the Medicine go Down

I broke down and bought cough syrup yesterday. If you know me, you know liquid form of any medication is just NASTY! When I was little, mom let me listen to the "Spoonful of Sugar" song before I had to take any nasty liquid medicine and then I got a spoonful of sugar as my reward!

Now, I probably won't be rewarding myself with a spoonful of sugar with the medicine today,(last night's reward was ice cream :) ) but I will be singing the song to myself. The stuff is still nasty after atleast 25 years. But if it works, it works. I've got to get this cold out of me!!!

Have you looked at the goal bar lately??? As of this moment we are $497 away from the 50% mark! Let's get reach 50% by March 9th! Thanks to all who have already contributed, you truly have encouraged me to continue training. There are plenty of days where it would be much easier to skip training. However, receiving your donations makes doing the training each day a little easier. Have a specatular week! j:)

It's raining. It's pouring. And I must go running.

Today was probably the hardest day to get myself running. Why??? Well, it's raining and cold and I still have a bit of a cold AND Sunday afternoons are SUPPOSED to be JUST FOR NAPS! (I'm thinking that last thought is going to have to change for a couple months.)

As Dad asked today, "Don't you just have to go running and not think about whether or not you will go?" Yes, that's pretty much what has to happen, and did. Thankfully it wasn't too bad, just wet. I think it was an easier run thanks to the great massage I received Friday morning.

If you live in the Indy area and are looking for a GREAT massage therapist for a GREAT price call Tina Daugherty at 328-8859.

If you're wondering how you can pray for me, pray for health and safety while training and pray for some running and riding partners to come along for the runs and rides during the week. Thanks!!

MId day naps required????

I apologize I have no profound thought for the day. This training is knocking me tired. I've had to get lots more sleep lately. I read in one triathlon book that I should schedule a 30 minute nap during lunch time. I'm ok with that. Tomorrow morning is my well-deserved and long awaited massage. Have a great Friday! j:)

Previous thoughts from fund raising site

2/14/05 - Thanks to all who have donated so far! They have been quite the encouragement for me to keep going, especially today. Today I've been feeling a bit under the weather. Your prayers for health, and perseverance are coveted.
Just a note - according to the TeamInTraining handbook, I should be at 10% funds raised by the end of this week. If you look below, we're ahead of schedule! Wahoo! We are on our way to the goal!

2/12/05 - It's amazing how just after two weeks of training, things are a little easier to do. Today, I ran 8K. Wahoo! It was an absolutely gorgeous morning at Eagle Creek. This morning made me want to do more running and biking outside. The outdoors is SO much more fun than spinning or running on the treadmill. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are my other bike and run days, anyone want to join me??? Give me a call (see info at www.active.com/donate/tntin/Jhomans )!

2/7/05 - The team swam at the IUPUI Natatorium tonight. I've been there before to watch my cousins swim. There were points in the evening when I sitting in the stands sounded pretty good. How do they swim for so long and not stop??? Needless to say, I persevered, swam lots and feel GREAT, but I'm sure I'll be begging for a massage tomorrow!

2/5/05 - The Lord is my strength and my song.
I did it! In team training this morning I ran a full 5K (3.2 miles)! While running this morning, this piece of scripture came to mind. I was asking for strength to make it the whole way and then almost started singing to help the time go by. No, I didn't start to sing - I saved my breaths for running. But time and distance went by and I was rejoicing when I made it the whole way! May God be your strength, song and salvation! j

2/2/05 - I was reading the Memphis in May triathlon website and my TNT handbook a little more carefully yesterday. In this careful reading, I discovered it's 1.5 K of swimming and not 1 K of swimming! YIKES! I guess that means I get to float a little longer :). One way you can look at this...if you choose one of the "$$ per Kilometer" categories below, you're getting a discount! It's small, but hey, it's a discount.

2/1/05 -For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
Psalm 139:13-14
As my body adapts to this new regimen, I have been reminded of - or should I say introduced to - muscles, I didn't know I had. The intricacy of the human body amazes me. Each one us knit together, uniquely. To think that so much happens inside of us every second and we have no idea. I'm glad I don't have to think about each little function my body does. I already forget so much, I would be bound to forget a heart beat or nerve signal. - blessings to you! j:)

My first posting

Welcome to my blog! I started this so everyone can see past training journal entries. For those that got to this blog before visiting www.active.com/donate/tntin/Jhomans - In May I am racing in a triathlon to raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. On the previously mentioned web site, I am journaling during my training to keep everyone posted. Well, I will soon run out of space there, so I found more room here! The most current entry will be on my fund raising web site. I'll then post them here. Check out the other web site and help support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
